Cozy & Warm/Attractive Heater
By annie
I love the look of this heater. Everyone comments that it looks like a small piece of furniture, like an end table. The oak cabinet is easily cleaned just like any other wood furniture.
As for comfort, let me say I love being toasty warm and this unit does the job. It will heat up to one thousand square feet. It will not work well if you have cathedral ceilings, nor will any other heater. The castors make it easy to move from room to room if you want.
We bought this heater on the recommendation of several friends who have owned this heater for several years and all are happy with it and have had no problems. At this time we have only one of these heaters, but are considering buying a second one this winter to place in another area of our home.
Another nice feature of this heater is that it contains four 375 Watt infra-red lamps that can be replaced by the consumer. Other heaters have bulbs that are hard-wired making it necessary to have them replaced by the maker.
This unit has a simple thermostat, not the digital display type with many selections. My husband loves this feature because we already have too many appliaces and electronics with confusing digital displays.
Highly recommended!

Whatever
By T. Pillow
I bought one of these 4 years ago. I read the description here on Amazon and I chuckled. 700 sq feet of heating? For $1 a day? Right. It's a 1500 watt heater. It doesn't say that anywhere in the description of course. Notice there are no specs provided. No measured "BTU" rating so who knows how much heat is coming out of it? I do. Little to very little. The unit itself looks almost crude at the back where the thermostat and filter are. Almost like a home-made deal. I don't care about that though. I wanted something to keep the chill out of a decent size room upstairs in my house. The room is 15 x 20 ft and has a low ceiling. 300 sq feet. Well insulated. (Former attic space). This unit does heat it up but only if I turn it on 3 days before I plan on going up there. Sadly, it blows a very very gentle warm breeze that you can feel only if you stick your hand directly in the front of it. When they say "soft heat", they mean feather soft. So soft, you can't even feel the heat. It's pretty heavy but the casters do move it around easier. I tried to sell it a couple different times but got no takers. I think I paid $375 for mine but that was around 4 years ago. Maybe 5. I replaced it with 3-425 watt convection wall panels. That's 1275 watts. They too are slow to heat, but they're dead silent and it gets toasty in there far quicker. By the way, don't let ANY company tell you how much something costs to operate other than your power company. You pay for "watts". Volts multiplied by amps. The lower the watts, the cheaper it will be to run though if you get something too small, it's ineffective and could end up costing you more because it never turns off. Which brings us back to this Sun Cloud heater....

Ok Heater
By Gary
This particular infrared heater is a pretty solidly built unit. Definitely seems higher quality than all the other infrared heaters on the market.
I use it in my small basement and it does ok in keeping it fairly warm. Unfortunately, the thermostat is more like an on off dial as opposed to a real thermostat that cycles the heater on/off. The unit will either be on all the time or off all the time. But I've never had a portable heater from any brand that had a working thermostat.
Now...is the Solar Comfort worth $500? I would say no. It does not heat any better than your avg portable heater from Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc. And, those units only cost around $100. Although all the previous cheapo units I've bought only lasted 3-4years...for $500...you could buy 5 cheapo units for the price of 1 Solar Comfort.
